Some people have asked us about the timing of our 75th anniversary. It is common knowledge that there has been a resort here long before 1932 and our family’s entrance into the Capon Springs story. We have a 175-page book describing this early history; a summary of which is provided on the Early Capon history page.

The obvious reason Capon continues in operation today is because of something that pre-dated all human history: the delicious, health giving Capon Spring water. If not for its abundance and centuries of testimony, Capon as a resort would never have been started, and therefore, never would have been resurrected into its current form.

Now in 2007, we celebrate that fateful day seventy-five years ago when Lou Austin acquired the spring and surrounding property. On May 6th, we held an afternoon event at the Bandstand where 300 plus guests, co-workers and community friends joined us to mark this milestone. After we shared our history and honored our enduring co-workers and guests, we heard stories about why this place is so special to so many people.

AND THE CELEBRATION CONTINUES ALL SEASON LONG WITH:

• Special Bingo prizes with commemorative Capon gear such as hats, shirts and collectibles.

• “75” related activities such as anyone turning 75 during 2007 will receive a special commemorative item during their Capon visit.

• Look for menu tweaks and surprises in honor of Capon’s 75th Anniversary! Here come coconut bars, brownies and coconut cream pie!

• To add to the fun, we are hiding 75th Anniversary tokens around Capon which can be redeemed for various Capon treats, such as - bags of cookies, ringing the Capon bell, a behind-the-scenes tour of the Capon kitchen, calling a game of Capon Bingo, golf course greens fees, treatments at the spa or even a free night’s stay!

WE ARE PIECING TOGETHER A "CAPON MEMORIES COLLECTION" AND NEED YOUR HELP!

All season long, we will be gathering your Capon memories. Please send, email or bring with you when you come, any and all of your Capon memories (photos, writings, poems, etc.) We are looking forward to sitting down with you and hearing your Capon recollections. At the conclusion of our anniversary season, we will compile them, and the collection will be available next year.
