While there is plenty to do at Capon, bus groups and guests staying a week or more sometimes use Capon as a base to explore area adventures. Here are just a few of the options all within about an hours drive...

Browse through local antique stores such as the Strasburg Emporium, the Antiques, ETC. in Wardensville , WV or Lost River Cooperative in Lost River, WV.

Discover the area’s rich civil war history through the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley, Kernstown Battlefield, Stonewall Jackson Museum at Hupps Hill. Visit restored civil era mansions such as Glen Burnie or Belle Grove Plantation.

Delight in the entertainment of live professional theater at the Wayside Theatre or at Shenandoah University’s Ohstrom Bryant Theater also in Winchester.

Nature provides several mini-adventures. Visit one of five caverns in the area: Luray, Crystal, Endless, Skyline or Shenandoah Caverns.

Canoe or kayak on either the North Fork of the Potomac River or the Shenandoah River with all supplies provided by professional touring companies.

Ride the Potomac Eagle Scenic Railroad and see unspoiled West Virginia wilderness only accessible by boat or rail.

Travel the countryside by horseback and experience life on a cattle ranch at the nearby Wagon Wheel Ranch. Explore the trails of Lost River State Park on horseback at Hidden Stables.

See arctic plants thrive at Ice Mountain, a Nature Conservancy Preserve near Capon Bridge, WV.

For the hardy and brave, travel 90 minutes to Nelson Rock Preserve and try a unique iron rail mountain climbing journey.
