Step 3 of 4:

Understand the Magic

What truly makes Capon Springs different from other resorts are all the “extras” that you just won’t find anywhere else. Operated by multiple generations of the same family, you are welcomed into a warm and caring atmosphere where everything is based on the honor system.   The set-menu and meal times mean all you have to do is show up when the bell rings!

When was the last time you and your family had an opportunity to completely “unplug” and spend quality time together?  Now imagine how great it would be that as your Capon experience draws to a close, you actually feel completely relaxed, restored, and reenergized- and already dreaming about your return!

Capon Springs Food & DiningOne of the highlights for many guests is our food! Country recipes that have been passed down through generations result in mouthwatering meals and desserts. From our onsite coal-fired brick oven come fresh baked daily breads, rolls, cookies and pies.

The homemade, comfort food at Capon is served family or buffet style (with a set weekly menu) and is all-you-can-eat. Make sure you go back for seconds and feel free to request extra of any of the dishes you really enjoy! (Double desserts are not frowned upon!) And please don’t hesitate to ask your server if you have any questions!

We will show you to your table at your first meal and usually that will be your personal table for the rest of your stay. Individuals and couples are often seated with others. Please let the office know if you prefer to sit alone or with others. Every attempt will be made to honor your wishes; however busy times may make this more difficult. Dress is politely casual: please no neckties, bare feet or bathing suits in the Dining Room.

Daily  Menu 2024 (subject to seasonal changes)

Breakfast

Breakfast is served from 8:30-9:30 am. Music is played “from the trees” throughout Capon Springs beginning at 8:00 am; flag ceremony is at 8:25 am and the bell rings at 8:30 am for breakfast.  From the first Sunday in July to the last Sunday in August, a breakfast buffet is served from 8:30am-10am and there is no lunch.

Lunch

The music begins at noon and lasts an hour when the bell rings to start lunchtime.  Lunch is served from 1:00-2:00 pm.  Lunch on Sunday is 12:30-1:30 pm. (The bell and music are advanced by half an hour midday on Sundays.)  From the first Sunday in July to the last Sunday in August, a breakfast buffet is served from 8:30am-10am and there is no lunch.

Dinner

The music begins at 5:00pm and lasts an hour when the bell rings to start dinner.  Dinner is served from 6:00-7:00 pm.  (Tomato juice, carrots, pretzels and olives are served on the Front Porch beginning at 5:30 pm.)

Monday dinner, Wednesday lunch and Thursday dinner are served at Sunset Lodge on the hill along the Golf Course. Follow the road at the end of the porch of the Main Building and bear right. Parking is available at the Lodge. All the remaining meals are served in the Dining Room, located in the Main Building.

High chairs, booster seats, bibs and washcloths are available for little ones. Arrangements can be made with your waitress to have food ready early and to heat baby food and bottles. If you brought your child’s own silverware and dishes, they will be washed and put back on your table if you let your waitress know.

We understand that sometimes children (and adults!) just don’t feel like eating what is being served. Peanut butter, bread, jams and jellies, applesauce, bananas and yogurt are always available at meal times. For other foods, such as baked potatoes, rice or toasted cheese sandwiches, please arrange with your waitress the meal before you would like them served. Please talk to your waitress about any other needs you may have.

Box lunches are available for hikes, trips, or on departure days. Please order 24 hours in advance.

Coffee

Coffee is served in the Main Building from 6:00 am until breakfast — early risers will find it down the hall from the Front Desk.  After dinner, coffee and tea are again served down the hall from the Front Desk. And, of course, coffee and tea are available at every meal.

Dining Room

Our Dining Room is generally reserved for our overnight guests. But if while you are here you wish to have company for a meal, please check with the office. Generally, the outdoor meals, Monday dinner, Wednesday lunch, and/or Thursday dinner, are the most flexible. However, we understand that sometimes none of these times will work and we will do our best to arrange for seating in the Dining Room.

Celebrations

Do you or someone in your party have a birthday or an anniversary during your stay? Let us know and we will be glad to serve a special cake at no charge. Because our Bake Shop keeps very busy making all the rolls, breads, pies and cakes we serve, we are only able to provide cakes at no charge to those who are here on the actual day of their birthday or anniversary. We do make an exception for 50th Anniversaries – any time you are here during your 50th Anniversary year, we will be happy to honor the occasion by making you a cake.

Are you here celebrating a special occasion even though the date does not fall during your visit? Please check with us at the Front Desk to see what options might be available.
