The 2024 Season runs May 2 through Nov 9 Fall Openings
Originally called the Bath House Cottage, the modern day President’s Cottage contained parlors, retiring rooms, and other conveniences during the 19th century. When the upper floor of the building was set aside for the president of the Watson Town Board of Trustees, it became known as the President’s Cottage.
Interestingly enough, one U.S. President stayed at in President’s Cottage during his actual time of office, Franklin Pierce in 1854. In the early 1940’s, the Austin family moved their summer residence from the Austin Cottage to the President’s Cottage.
The upstairs rooms were first renovated in the early 1990’s and were made available to guests. The 1st floor originally contained five single rooms all with one twin bed. Three had private baths, while two were designated as females only with a shared bath down the hall. The upstairs was divided into two sides with a sitting room in between.
In 2022, the entire cottage was renovated so that there are now a total of 2 large bedrooms on each floor, each with their own private bath. These expanded room will be able to house between 4-5 people. The top floor will still have a shared sitting room between the two rooms and the two downstairs rooms will be handicap accessible. The Capon maintenance team has included as much of the original wood and brick in the renovation as possible, including the fireplaces in each room.
Updated interior images will be shared here as soon as the rooms are completed.. The President’s Cottage will still be under construction for the 2024 season
